I chose this walk as I needed a relatively easy walk for my 79 year old mother in law.
From Titirangi it takes about half an hour to drive to Whatipu, with part of the road still gravel. From the car park to the beach it only takes 10 minutes but walking along the beach and over the sand dunes is where the magic lies.
My initially grumpy 13 year old loved jumping, climbing and running through the sand dunes and over the streams. The scenery on the glorious sunny day that we went was stunning - hopefully Spring is finally in the air!
Heading home we stopped at The Huia Foodstore and had a yummy brownie and coffee. All in all a fantastic afternoon that everyone in the family, young and old, enjoyed.

Whatipu is steeped in history - not only is it an inspiring and beautiful place to walk, it also boasts caves to explore, a buried dance floor and even its own ghost stories.
